   6 This is the first public release of fontconfig, a font configuration and
   7 customization library.  Fontconfig is designed to locate fonts within the
   8 system and select them according to requirements specified by applications.

  10 Fontconfig is not a rasterization library, nor does it impose a particular
  11 rasterization library on the application.  The X-specific library
  12 'Xft' uses fontconfig along with freetype to specify and rasterize fonts.
