  33 If directory arguments are not given,
  34 .I fc-cache
  35 uses each directory in the current font configuration.  Each directory is
  36 scanned for font files readable by FreeType.  A cache is created which
  37 contains properties of each font and the associated filename.  This cache is
  38 used to speed application startup when using the fontconfig library.
